On “Consequentialism” and the Capability Approach

Amartya Sen defends the capability approach (CA) and “discipline of consequential evaluation” which suggests that his CA is consistent with some form “consequentialism”. Yet prominent commentators suggest or imply Sen’s not “consequentialist”. The resulting confusion defused by showing whether CA, as a general normative perspective, “consequentialism” depends on how understood. If understood moral doctrine, then committed to either “non-consequentialism”. On social choice theoretic (SCT) definition framework view “consequentialist” if it restricts relevant information “outcomes”. this definition, compatible “outcomes” are “comprehensive” “culmination” outcomes.
